The first nationally accredited county park system in New York State is seeking an experienced and proven leader with vision, a history of creative ideas and a commitment to excellent parks and recreation services.  Westchester County has over 900,000 energetic and engaged citizens, 85% of which use its park system's facilities and services.

Westchester County is seeking a dynamic, innovative, experienced professional for the position of Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.  Under the general direction of the County Executive, an incumbent of this class is the chief administrative officer in charge of the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department and its personnel.  The position's chief responsibilities are directing the planning, development and operations of the County's parks recreational, historical preservation and conservation activities to ensure proper utilization of natural resources and providing recreational activities and facilities.  The Commissioner serves as technical advisor and consultant to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board and administers Board policies.  In addition, the incumbent maintains an active role with various professional organizations.  Direct and indirect supervision is exercised over a large number of professional, technical, clerical and maintenance personnel. 

Required Knowledge and Abilities:
The Commissioner, a member of the County Executive's cabinet, is an ex officio voting member of the County Planning Board and works closely with the Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board and the Friends of Westchester County Parks Inc., a not-for-profit partner.  The position requires strong management skills as well as a vision for delivering services in challenging economic times.

Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in recreation, forestry, physical education, park administration, or a closely related field and 12 years of full-time, paid experience in an administrative position of major responsibility in recreation, parks or camps. "(Desired)"

Salary: $155,000 with an excellent benefit package.
